Specializing in cakes, pies, cookies & more, black wick bakery goods are made completely from scratch with the freshest and highest quality ingredients available.

The black wick baking philosophy is simple: flavor first. No amount of intricate design or elaborate decor can compensate for lackluster taste. 

Whether it's chocolate peanut butter layer cake, salted chocolate chip cookies or classic dinner rolls, I strive to create Southern-inspired baked goods that balance familiar flavors with modern touches. 
 

About Me

I started black wick bakery after years of baking on the side for friends' and family's special events. My experience and training includes work in several bakeries and restaurants, as well as classes in baking & pastry from the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California.

The name "black wick" derives from a family nickname for the women who taught me to honor tradition while making my own mark, to make magic of the details, and perhaps most importantly, to use food to connect, care, and remember.
 

Location

black wick bakery is a home-based custom order bakery located in Ashland, Virginia — approximately 20 miles north of Richmond. Owned and operated by Martha J. Miller, black wick bakery offers a variety of baked goods — from wedding cakes, Thanksgiving pies, birthday cupcakes, or “just because” cookies. Looking for something specific or hard to find?
